British International Primary School of Stockholm
The British International Primary School, set in Djursholm, an attractive residential area of Stockholm, was founded in 1980. It is an independent, co-educational day school, catering for children between the ages of 3 and 11 years. The school operates as a trust under the management of a Board of Governors elected to represent the interests of the parents, teachers and members of the local community. Classes are small and children are encouraged to develop their individuality and simultaneously learn to show respect and consideration for others. The school uses the English National Curriculum as a minimum standard, adapted to take advantage of the school's Swedish location and the diversity of the student body. All instruction in the school is in English. Art, Swedish, music and physical education are included in the curriculum for all classes. All members of staff are fully qualified and experienced and are kept up-to-date with the latest developments in education by means of a comprehensive in-service training programme. Admission is based on previous school records and a personal interview where possible. The main criteria for acceptance are the child's potential to benefit from the education available and the school's capacity to meet the child's individual educational needs. The school year of runs from the middle of August until the middle of June and is divided into two terms. There are holidays in October, December, February and March/April. School hours are from 08:45 to 15:15, Monday to Friday.
