Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet is a co-educational state school in the centre of Göteborg. It was founded in 1647. The international section started in 1989 and is an integral part of the school.

The language of instruction in the international section is English. The programme offered is a three-year course of studies leading to the International Baccalaureate examinations. The first year is a preparatory year intended to introduce the students to the IB programme and is approximately equivalent to the first year of the Swedish Natural/Social Sciences programme. All basic subjects are included. During the two following years six subjects are chosen according to the IB regulations.

Students come from all over the world and are of many nationalities, but many are Swedes who have spent some years outside Sweden.

The school year starts in mid-August and ends in mid-June. It is divided into two terms and has forty weeks of instruction.

Most of the teachers are Swedish; some are native speakers of English. All language teachers teach their mother-tongue.
