The International School of Helsingborg was founded in 1995 to answer the growing demand for a truly international education at the primary and secondary levels. The school's curriculum, which follows the International Baccalaureate guidelines, is taught in English at all levels.

The student body at ISH includes children from many European countries, north and south America, Asia and the Middle East.

In August 2001 ISH moved to new facilities in an area a few kilometres from the city centre, a location served by both a daily school bus from and to the city centre and a regular local bus route connecting to the city. Helsingborg is situated in south west Sweden, next to the Öresund Sound, which separates Sweden from Denmark. The two countries are four kilometres apart at this point and the narrowest part of the Sound, and the frequent ferries take twenty minutes to make the crossing. There are frequent trains from Helsingborg directly to Kastrup, the airport of Copenhagen, and it takes around 45 minutes.

Prospective parents are invited to download, complete and mail the application form to the school. The decision on admission is made on the basis of previous school records, personal interview with both student and parents, tests of language and basic mathematical skills, any special circumstances, and on the school's ability to provide for the applicant's educational needs. Decisions on admission are taken by the school Principal in consultation with the teaching staff who carry out the testing.
