International School in Nacka
The International School in Nacka began in 1995. It enjoys the benefits of belonging to the Municipality of Nacka. The school offers an education in English to the growing international community in the Stockholm area. The school is able to offer an education in Swedish to local residents. Students with insufficient English or Swedish are offered ESL or Sw2. An upper secondary school section opened in August 1999. Both sections teach core subjects to students in the language of the section. The English section employs teachers with English as their mother tongue. A 'global meeting' is arranged in the school for all students. These global meetings occur during the teaching of modern languages. 'Global meetings' are when students from both sections enjoy lessons together. Such meetings strengthen inter-cultural understanding and co-operation. These meetings also occur during project and theme days. The school Knowledge Centre has been doubled in size to accommodate the processes of investigation with the use of media such as computers, Internet and reference books. The International School in Nacka's Scholarship is awarded to ambitious students. The award allows a number of students to stay in an international school in another part of Europe. The scholarship furthers the intentions of the ISN in its wish to create greater international understanding and co-operation between young people. The school offers all international students the chance to study Swedish to help them orientate themselves locally. From year six students choose a modern language. The choice includes French, Spanish and German. Students can also choose additional English, Swedish and/or mother tongue instruction. Authorization has been granted for the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organsation. ISN is a full IB World School, offering the PYP, the MYP and the Diploma.
